We love Stake Chophouse! We recently went to Stake in celebration of our anniversary and they did not disappoint. Every food item we have tried on the menu is exceptional and their customer service is unmatched. We really do enjoy going to Stake to celebrate any special occasion because we know we are going to be met with awesome service. The atmosphere is perfect for a date night with its dark, warm and modern-chic vibe. During our recent dinner we go to hear the live music that was being performed in the outdoor seating area and it was so amazing! Stake continues to impress us, and we will always call this establishment one of our favorites. I can’t recommend Stake enough and save room for dessert because it will change your life.

Dinner at the Hotel del Coronado steakhouse on a Wednesday night. No reservation needed — walked right in with a party of 3. The 22 oz dry-aged ribeye was the highlight with a great salt cap sear, though a couple of bites were a little too charred. The mixed mushrooms and Saltspring Island mussels were both excellent and I'd order them again without hesitation. Mini lobster rolls were surprisingly good for someone who doesn't usually go for lobster. Fair warning though — avoid the King Crab Fried Rice. There's an unlisted sauce on it that made the whole dish sour and tart, and our table couldn't finish it. Cool detail: they bring out a collection of steak knives from around the world and let each person pick their own. Service was solid once we were seated, though there was a bit of a gap at the host stand when we first arrived. I'd come back for the steak and sides but keep it simple on the seafood — this place is a steakhouse for a reason.

During my recent visit, Paige was my waitress/server when I first arrived, and sadly, my experience with her was disappointing, consistent with my previous encounters with her. After taking my order, she took orders from two more tables then prioritized the other tables, delivering their orders while I waited. As she passed by me a few times without attending to me, I decided to head to the bar but was intercepted by Ana, another waitress, who took my order and delivered my drink with friendly, attentive service. The food and drinks were yummy, nonetheless, Paige's service fell short of expectations and as this isn't the first time I've experienced poor service from Paige, I feel it necessary to bring it to the attention of the management.

Stake in Coronado delivers the kind of evening that reminds you why steakhouses still matter when they’re done right: confident cooking, a sense of occasion, and service that feels personal rather than transactional. We sat on the rooftop during golden hour—umbrellas overhead, ocean air moving through the space, and the long fire feature lending the room that warm, flattering glow. It’s an atmosphere that’s upscale without being stiff, and it makes a normal dinner feel like a night out. Food-wise, the kitchen leans into modern steakhouse elegance. The early plates were composed and clean—bright accents, smart texture, and sauces used with intention instead of drowning the protein. The skewers came out with a deep, savory char, and the mains landed with the confidence you want at this price point. Dessert closed the loop in classic steakhouse fashion: unapologetically rich chocolate with that “special occasion” flourish—plus a well-executed ice cream accompaniment that actually tasted like it belonged. But the difference-maker was service, especially Paige, who managed to be warm, informed, and impeccably timed without hovering. She guided the pacing, checked in at the right moments, and handled the table the way great hospitality should—like you’re welcome, not like you’re being managed. A Coronado staple for dates, celebrations, or hosting visitors who want a rooftop dinner that feels distinctly “San Diego.”

1st experience. Server: Connie (sorry if misspelled 😬) Mood: extremely chill and friendly Food: out of this world. We were extremely impressed. Skirt steak was buttery and soft. Filet mignon was extremely soft and flavorful, even when cooked well done. 30 day aged prime bone-in ribeye flavors dance in our mouths. Cutlery: you get to select a knife for your meal. Which I have never had to do. Experience: walked in not knowing what kind of experience we were about to have. We sure felt underdressed. But im glad we weren't treated different for it. Connie was extremely nice and down to earth. She explained everything to us and continuesly checked on us. I will tell you your water is always filled. Once we were done our food was packed away for us and we were offered dessert. Unfortunately this time we weren't able to try dessert. We will be back in july for our anniversary ❤️ cant wait to come back. Thank you Connie for the great experience.
