Stopped in here after reading how great their happy hour was and we just left the Padres game (where we were, surprise, losing!) and needed something to drown our misery. It was about 4pm on a Sunday and we sat outside on the patio at a 2-top table. There was no one else on the patio at this time yet. Of course, the waiter gave us the main menu and we had to ask for the happy hour menu and began ordering. We ordered: * Six (6) oysters - $9 * Truffle Mac - $12 * Signature Crab Cakes - $12 * Prime New York Steak - $21 * Bone Marrow - $28 (off regular menu) * Butterfly cocktail - $9 * San Diego Sunset - $9 The oysters were amazing, so good! The truffle mac was good too, strong truffle flavor. The menu says "crab cakes" but we only got ONE crab cake. It was outstanding, really. The NY Steak was 5oz and it was good but also very small. Came with mashed potatoes which were also very good. The bone marrow was lousy. For $28, we got two bones with hardly any marrow. The plate also came with a few crostinis (pieces of toasted bread). At Bavette's in Vegas, they have a $28 bone marrow dish that comes with 7 bones, bread, and jam...so we were extremely disappointed with this dish. I would not order this again. Service was great. We ended up getting 6 more oysters and two more HH cocktails, then one non-HH dirty martini. Because we had mentioned our anniversary on the reservations in OpenTable, they also got us a "free" slice of cake. Not sure what kind it was, but it was very tasty and came with some kind of strawberry glaze. Very good. The plate said "Happy Birthday" on it which was hilarious. It was also spelled out in what was probably powdered sugar, but looked a LOT like cocaine, haha. Made for a great pic. Bill after tip was $196. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. Bathrooms are small and kinda dirty but that's because of the age of the building I suppose. Service was great. We would come back for more oysters and crab cakes and maybe even a full steak but next time I think we'd rather sit inside. Too many random homeless people walking by!

With so many positive reviews, I had higher expectations. The filet mignon was average and lacked garnish or sauce options. Portions felt small for a steakhouse, and the Caesar salad and lobster mac and cheese were underwhelming. We also had a reservation but were seated next to the kitchen, with a lot of noise and foot traffic. Overall, the experience was just okay, but the quality could be better for a steakhouse.

I made reservations for my girlfriend and myself for Valentine’s Day expecting a special and memorable evening. I knew it would be busy, and we were completely understanding of that. What we did not expect was how poorly the entire experience would be handled from start to finish. We were seated within a reasonable time, and our server brought water and took our order shortly after. Unfortunately, that was the last part of the night that went smoothly. We waited about 45 minutes for our first course. When it finally arrived, it was shocking. I ordered the heart-shaped ravioli, which looked like a pile of sauce, and my girlfriend ordered the lamb chops. Both dishes were ice cold. Not slightly warm. Not room temperature. Ice cold, as if they had been sitting for quite some time. I politely brought this to our server’s attention. He apologized and offered to replace my dish. About 20 minutes later, another plate arrived. While it looked better, it was still only lukewarm. By that point we were frustrated and hungry, so we ate it anyway. While all of this was happening, the host was calling guests’ names and lining them up in the doorway leading to the entrance. It appeared to be an effort to make it seem like tables were moving quickly, but it created congestion right next to our table. We were seated outside, which meant people were standing directly in front of us and in our personal space for much of the night. It felt uncomfortable and honestly unsafe, as it blocked the entrance area and seemed like a potential fire hazard. To make matters worse, the outdoor heaters were not working, so we were sitting in the cold while trying to eat. After finishing our first course, I asked to speak with a manager and was told our server was the assistant manager. I explained how disappointed we were so far, but nothing improved. We then waited another 30 minutes for our entrées, which only came out after I asked again about our order. At that point, it felt like we were constantly having to chase our own food. One of our sides was shrimp scampi, which cost an additional $25. When it arrived, it had only three shrimp. Charging that much for such a small portion was unacceptable, especially after everything else that had gone wrong. We were told we would receive a discount, so we tried to move forward and salvage what we could of the evening. Unfortunately, that was not possible. My ribeye was lukewarm, and my girlfriend’s salmon was ice cold, overcooked, and had a foul taste. Watching her try to eat it on what was supposed to be a romantic night was incredibly disappointing. At that point, I asked to speak to the manager again and let him know we were done. We had completely lost confidence in the kitchen. He apologized and agreed to comp our entire meal. While I understand Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest nights of the year, being busy is not an excuse for cold food, poor presentation, slow service, and an uncomfortable dining environment. This felt like a complete breakdown in execution and preparation. This was supposed to be a special evening for us, and instead it turned into a long, frustrating, and disappointing experience. For a restaurant that presents itself as upscale and charges premium prices, this was simply unacceptable. We left feeling frustrated, let down, and embarrassed that I chose this place for such an important occasion. I would not recommend this restaurant. No matter how busy you are, guests deserve far better than what we experienced.

NOT recommended. Try one of the higher rated places in the area instead. SERVICE: Good No complaints (*). For a mid-level restaurant would have been 5-stars. At these prices, I expect a server to know the menu in detail and execution to be very polished. That was not the case. Our server did however have a great personality and worked to ensure we had a good experience which we appreciated. The asterisk is for suspect issues with the bill: tuna tartare rung up as the $33 deconstructed Wagyu steak tartare sub tuna (almost $10 more than the menu price as I remember), asparagus rung at $19 - $2 more than on the menu. It felt like these issues were stemming from the restaurant not our server. She offered to address but it simply wasn't about the money to me. ATMOSPHERE: had a slight charm in its own way but is not modern, sophisticated, nor upscale classic. The interior is a bit worn and the bathroom actually pretty nasty, water and wet paper all over, with a decor akin to what you might expect for a public restroom not a high-end restaurant. Fellow customers were not dressed up and it is definitely not a scene. DRINKS: set the stage for how this place is such a poser and pretender. The $20 espresso martini one of the worst I've had. The $22 24K Golddigger horrible. Maybe the bartender was out sick? These drinks were not made with any skill. FOOD: sub-par, even for places at half the price point. 12oz bone-in-filet: respectably seasoned but over-cooked and the cut was terrible...at $139 a joke! The bone was on the small side and I'd guess the actual steak size to be ~11oz with 7-8oz of meat, very thin, too thin to prepare well with a crazy amount of tough fat leaving it devoid of that filet coveted tender signature. A bone-in can be fattier than a center-cut but this was excessive. I ordered hoping for a filet bigger than the 8oz -the only other option- which I had already suspected would be too thin to be cooked to that perfect crust while leaving a tender cool red center. If you do go here order a different cut or if you really want a filet, get the regular center-cut; save your money. Asparagus: the best item ordered and didn't disappoint; other than the kitchen messed up the request to hold all oil and butter. Note to restaurant: when you mess up, offer to leave the mess-up for all the trouble and wait vs just throwing it way. Only one person at the table actually needed it to be oil-free. The rest of us would have preferred it as is so this was an opportunity wasted. Mashed potatoes: tasted how you'd imagine caulk to taste. Awful. I wonder if the kitchen mixed up the no-butter request put in for the Asparagus. Salmon: over-cooked and dry but my brother thought it tasted really good anyway and ironically loved the special mashed potatoes that it came with which had pancetta and other special ingredients that the mashed potatoes side did not. Tuna Tartare: high-quality very fresh tuna but really missed on the composition lacking in flavor and dimension. Would have greatly benefited from sesame seed oil, a few actual sesame seeds sprinkled on top, and perhaps a touch of lime, soy sauce, and ginger or a number of other possible options to spruce it up. MISSED RED FLAG: Greystone overly touts how they were rated the #1 steakhouse. When a restaurant deserves such a distinction, the distinction speaks for itself. If displayed at all, it’s usually done with class not as a blatant way to lure tourists. Not sure when this was but if you check numerous review outlets -while not horribly rated- Greystone is actually rated near the bottom of the steakhouses in the area and was unfortunately in my experience the absolute worst steakhouse "meal" I can recall in any of the six of the seven continents I've had steak in, even at half the price. That may sound tongue-in-cheek but it is not. Nearby chains Ruth Chris and Eddie V's will completely crush this place. Even STK Steakhouse likely will be levels better, not only better but likely even less expensive too.

Food absolutely amazing! We ordered the Tomahawk to share plus Mac n Cheese and cream spinach to die for! Tommy was our server and he was so attentive and anticipated our needs. Manager was so hospitable and took her time to see how we were doing. Definitely recommend and can't wait to come back
